CNN wrestling video creator apologizes for racist posts
By TATIANA PROPHET
Social media platforms Twitter and reddit were buzzing with news Wednesday morning. Not anything substantive, just news about the latest outrage that has hijacked our political stage.
Apparently, a CNN reporter contacted HanAssholeSolo, the reddit user who made the original video of Donald Trump taking down the CNN logo (which at the very least gave Trump the idea for the video... since there was no audio on the original video). And the user, whose name still has not been revealed, has apologized in a post on reddit for his previous racist posts. What I'm seeing is that out of fear of his identity being revealed, he took the unusual move of posting an open letter on the site that he frequents.
Read the apology on reddit here.
"I would...like to apologize for the posts made that were racist, bigoted and anti-semitic," he wrote. I am in no way this kind of person, I love and accept people from all walks of life and have done so for my entire life."
Twitter, reddit and youtube are havens for people, many of them male, who say racist things simply for shock value.
It just goes to show, when people are anonymous, they will say the most hateful things. Let this be a lesson for all of us.
Some users on Twitter, including Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, are claiming that CNN blackmailed HanAssholeSolo. Yes, I just typed that sentence. Some are even claiming that HanAssholeSolo is 15 years old. Other users refute this claim, saying he is middle-aged.
The footage in the tweet is from World Wrestling Entertainment's Wrestlemania 23 in 2007, showing a publicity stunt in which Donald Trump took down a willing and overacting WWE Chairman Vince McMahon, then shaved his head.A
It's been widely known for decades that WWE, and its precursor WWF, is notoriously "faked." The "violence" in the video is completely staged (in case you are not an American wrestling fan).
